Physical and chemical properties of folic acid:
Orange needle shaped crystals. No melting point, carbonized at 250 ºC. Stable to visible light, with reduced UV activity and accelerated oxidation and hydrolysis by acids and bases. Insoluble in water, ethanol, ether, and chloroform, slightly soluble in methanol, soluble in acetic acid, pyridine, hydroxide alkali, and carbonate alkali solutions. LD50 (rat, intravenous) 500 mg/kg.
Application:
Purpose 1 : Anti anemia drug, used for symptomatic or nutritional giant cell anemia.
Usage 2 : Used as a biochemical reagent and also in the pharmaceutical industry
Usage 3 : Folic acid is an anti anemia drug. When livestock and poultry lack folic acid, their appetite decreases, their growth is hindered, and their feathers grow poorly. Dosage 0.5-1.0mg/kg.
Usage 4 : Used as a food fortifier.
Purpose 5 : Biochemical research; The clinical medication is the B-vitamin group, used for the treatment of gestational and infantile giant cell anemia.
Usage 6 : Folic acid is used in feed, medicine, and food, but mainly in feed.:
Usage 7 : Used in the polyamide industry to prepare nylon and also as a raw material for saturated polyurethane.
What is Vitamin B9 Folic Acid?
Folic acid is a derivative of pteridine, originally isolated from the liver and later found to be abundant in the green leaves of plants, hence the name folic acid. It is widely found in meat, fresh fruits, vegetables, yellow crystalline powder, tasteless and odorless, its sodium salt soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol and ether and other organic solvents, insoluble in cold water but slightly soluble in hot water. Unstable in acidic solutions and easily destroyed by light.
This product is yellow or orange crystalline powder, odorless, tasteless. Insoluble in water, ethanol, acetone or ether, soluble in alkali hydroxide or carbonate.
The role of folic acid on the organism is mainly manifested in the following aspects: participating in the metabolism of genetic material and protein; Affect animal reproductive performance; Affect the secretion of animal pancreas; Promote the growth of animals; Improve body immunity. Possible causes of folate deficiency include insufficient intake; Increased demand; Intestinal absorption disorder; Vitamin C deficiency; Use of folate antagonists; Liver disease, etc.
Application of Vitamin B9 Folic Acid:
1.When folic acid was added, the daily gain of piglets in the whole period was significantly higher than that in the basal diet group, the protein concentration in serum, the DNA, RNA and protein contents in liver were significantly increased, and the urea nitrogen concentration in serum was significantly decreased, which improved the growth performance of piglets.
2. In the tissue metabolism of high-yield dairy cows, folic acid and choline can provide a carbon group for energy and protein metabolism, purine and DNA synthesis, so as to improve the production performance of dairy cows.
3. Folic acid can be used in the medical field. 0.4 mg of folic acid is used to prevent fetal neural tube malformations, 5 mg of folic acid is used to treat anemia in women.
4. In addition to the effect of folic acid on the prevention of incomplete nerve closure in infants, it also plays a certain role in the prevention of some common diseases in humans.
5. The consumption of folic acid fortified foods has an essential relationship with the increase of serum folic acid level in middle-aged and elderly people. Folic acid may reduce the risk of gout in people who have no history of gout. Folic acid supplements can inhibit the recurrence rate of colorectal cancer.
