Description

Lychee (scientific name: Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is an evergreen tree of the Sapindaceae family and the genus Litchi, about 10 meters high. The peel has scaly protrusions, bright red and purple-red. It turns bright red when mature; the seeds are all wrapped in fleshy arils. The flowering period is spring and the fruiting period is summer. The flesh is translucent and creamy when fresh, and tastes delicious, but it is not resistant to storage.

It is distributed in the southwest, south and southeast of China, and is most cultivated in Guangdong and southern Fujian. It is also cultivated in southeastern Asia, and there are records of introduction in Africa, America and Oceania. Lychee is known as the "four major fruits of the south" together with bananas, pineapples and longans.
