Description

Asparagus, also known as: three hundred sticks, Wuzhu, Sidong, tiger tail root, asparagus grass, Mingtian winter, African asparagus, full winter winter, Sidong. It is a plant of the Liliaceae family and the genus Asparagus, distributed in East China, Central and South China, Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, Taiwan, Guizhou and other provinces and regions. It grows mostly in the shaded wetlands of mountain forests, bushes on hills or grass on hillsides. It is a climbing plant. The root is fusiform and swollen in the middle or near the end, and the swollen part is 3-5 cm long and 1-2 cm thick. The stem is smooth, often curved or twisted, up to 1-2 meters long, and the branches are ribbed or narrowly winged. The leaf-like branches are usually clustered in groups of 3, flat or slightly sharp triangular due to the keel shape of the midrib, slightly sickle-shaped, 0.5-8 cm long, about 1-2 mm wide; the scale-like leaf base on the stem extends into hard thorns 2.5-3.5 mm long, and the thorns on the branches are shorter or not obvious. Flowers are usually 2 in each axillary, light green; pedicels are 2-6 mm long; joints are usually in the middle, sometimes with varying positions; male flowers: perianth 2.5-3 mm long; filaments not attached to perianth segments; female flowers are similar in size to male flowers. Berries are 6-7 mm in diameter, red when ripe, with 1 seed. Flowering period is May-June, fruiting period is August-October.
